Are you more intelligent since you left?
by Nosferatu inever since leaving the jws, i believe i've become much more intelligent.
i now have to learn from my past mistakes rather than viewing my mistakes as a result of satan's influence.
i now know how to prevent myself from making the same mistakes rather than repeating them due to ignoring the facts.

Hi Nos
I am definitely more intelligent since leaving the JW's. It's amazing, my thoughts are clearer, I can read faster and absorb more, and my speech has improved. I say what I mean with intelligent word choices (at least when compared to before) and don't use um's or like's nearly as often. The only reason I can think of is leaving the JW's and filling my head with normal reading and not that inane drivel falling out of Brooklyn.
Peace

Dateline special
by new light ini just remembered that the p.o.
of our congregation showed a group us the dateline special back when it was still new.
i am deeply puzzled by this and can only guess at what his motives were.

Blondie,
He really did not say much before or after. We were in his house having dinner after helping him in a field of his. We were all sitting around the TV and he just put it on. When it was over, he did not ask any questions, just let nature take its course. At the time, I was newly re-instated and was honestly favoring the witnesses. I remember saying things like "that lady is definitely going to Gehenna for this one. I mean, slandering the organization? Making up stories about being molested?" So, if it was a test, I definitely passed, I think. Then again, he may have been trying to open our minds, although this is very doubtful as he is a real company man.
Unfortunately, I was a non-doubting JW at the time. Obviously my critical/analytical thinking skills were severely impaired at the time, so I couldn't clearly see a reason for him to do this. Just looking for a little feedback from people with their many points of view.
P.S. The "Dateline special" is the one from about 5/02 regarding child abuse victims.

I just remembered that the P.O. of our congregation showed a group us the Dateline special back when it was still new. I am deeply puzzled by this and can only guess at what his motives were. It almost seems like it was some sort of test and he was observing our reactions. Does anyone have any ideas on what would motivate the P.O. to do this?

1993 Circuit Assembly Demonstration that Involved "The Firm" (1993)
by FirstInLine ini remember in 1993 at one of the circuit conventions that they did a drama in which a young adult woman living with her parents was going to go see "the firm" (1993) with some other young adult jws.
when she told her parents of her plans they expressed their concerns and she pleaded that sometimes a really good movie is ok to go see if it is rated r. she heard from reliable sources that there wasnt anything really bad with it like gratuitous sex, drugs or demonic themes.
in the end her parents convinced her that jehovah would still not approve because it was rated r. she was reminded that even worldly people recognize it is a bad movie because they are the ones that gave it the r rating.

This is kind of off-topic, but whatever. One time my friend and I (both 16 years old) decided to rent "Air America"--rated "R" if you didn't know. Only problem was my friends dad was renting an apartment to a holy-roller pioneer janitor, which had a door going right to the TV room. We had set up pots pans, etc. in front of his door so we would be able to shut off the movie if need be. It be. He comes bursting in, we press stop, hoping the on-screen "STOP" disappears before he sees it. It did, but the channel on the VCR was public access. He asks, "What are you guys doing watching Public Access?" and barges up to the VCR and takes out the tape. He was so mad we were watching an "R" movie he could barely speak, he was really disturbed. Of course he told our parents and the elders. Thank god he was there to save us from certain moral defilement. God's active force was truly with him.

How insane is the GB?
by new light inhas anyone stopped to consider the mental condition of those who have been at the top of wtbts?.
how crazy was c.t.russell?
i surely don't have all the facts, but i do know this much: a man in his twenties felt that his interpretation of a 2,000 year-old book was directly sent from god above.

Hi all,
Has anyone stopped to consider the mental condition of those who have been at the top of WTBTS?
How crazy was C.T.Russell? I surely don't have all the facts, but I do know this much: A man in his twenties felt that his interpretation of a 2,000 year-old book was directly sent from God above. No one else was privy to this direct memo from heaven. Everyone who does not buy into this interpretation will be subject to eternal destruction. Any who do will receive everlasting life. You could be shipped off to "Happy Acres" for this today!
The fact that people did buy into this is amazing. They even took over the reigns after Russell died. The executives and writers have all added their opinions and 100+ years later, its still way off the mark. To feel that your way is the only way, that it is inspired of God in spite of countless mistakes and false prophecies, and that people will be destroyed by God for not signing on, is madness. These guys should not be allowed to roam the streets.

"They're out to get me!"
by Nan inis it my imagination, or do jehovah witnesses have an "everyone is against me" attitude??
our daughter-in-law (who is a jw) seems to have this mind-set.
whether its getting the car repaired, going to the doctor, work done on the house, etc., they all have "ripped her off".

It's true that this mindset is perpetrated in the literature. Many of the people who read enough of it and listen to what's being said are affected, They then pass these traIts to their children. I was completetly of this mindset well into my twenties. Can you imagine the level of psychosis required to not only imagine that persecution, for behavior you invented by your own interpretation of a 2,000 year old book, is proof that you are God's chosen servant, but to then foment this onto millions of unsuspecting people and enforce behavior that they probably never would do naturally and will most certainly result in persecution given enough time and effort. And time and effort they will give, if not to move into better "privileges of service," then at least to chip away at the enormous mound of guilt shoveled onto them almost every time they read you interpration of the Bible. People have been institutionalized for less. A person with this tragic level of mental illness really should not be allowed to walk among us without copious amounts of lithium.
